The Vancouver Japanese Language School (VJLS) is the oldest Japanese language school in British Columbia and has provided culture, connection, and education to the community since 1906. Our curriculum is focused on balancing language instruction, cultural activities, and community history to create an engaging and meaningful experience for our students.
As a second-language school we serve a diverse student body with students of all backgrounds, abilities, and ages who are interested in joining our community. We specialize in providing a unique atmosphere by embedding cultural events and activities into all of our courses so that our students can practice their abilities and deepen their understanding and appreciation of Japanese Canadian culture.
Additionally, the history of the Japanese Canadian community and its roots in our neighbourhood (Powell Street) is woven throughout all of our classes.
