Weekday Evening Classes are 10-week programs that are ideal for quickly learning the Japanese language and culture for travel or business purposes.
For first time students who have some previous experience speaking Japanese, we have developed a self-placement guide that will help you identify the course best suited to your current abilities.
No textbook is needed
This class is for first-time Japanese language learners. In this course you will learn basic concepts of Japanese.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
・Read, write, and pronounce hiragana (Japanese alphabet あいうえお)
・Read, write, and pronounce katakana (another set of Japanese alphabet アイウエオ)
・Exchange greetings
・Introduce yourself
・Produce and speak short sentences
In this course, you will learn:
・How to count (numbers and currency)
・The name of the days, week, month, year
・Colours
・Basic verbs in the present tense
・How to create short question sentences
At the end of the course you will be able to:
・ Use useful expressions
・Order food in a restaurant
・Ask simple questions (regarding time, price, dates)
・Talk about your daily schedule

In this course, you will learn:
・Basic verbs in the present tense
・Basic adjectives in the present tense
・Words to describe a location
At the end of the course you will be able to:
・Invite someone to do something or to go somewhere
・Describe a location and ask for directions

In this course, you will learn:
・The negative form of verbs
・Naming of body parts
・How to make polite requests and sentences
At the end of the course you will be able to:
・Ask permission to do something
・Describe an action in progress
・Express your desires
・Describe how you are feeling

In this course, you will learn:
・The name of family members
・Adjectives
・40 Kanji
At the end of the course you will be able to:
・Ask about preferences
・Make comparisons
・Ask about family members
・Combine two adjectives
・Write new 40 Kanji
Textbook:Japanese for Busy People II, lessons 4–6
In this course, you will learn:
・Verb short-form conjugation
・The names of sports and hobbies
・How to make suggestions
・How to discribe time ( e.g. once a week/ twice a month )
・30 Kanji
At the end of the course you will be able to:
・Express daily actions using several verbs
・Make casual conversation
・Describe your experiences
・Write new 30 Kanji
Textbook:Japanese for Busy People II, lessons 7–9
In this course, you will learn;
・How to name things in nature (mountain, lake, river, etc)
・The name of occupations and divisions of a company
・How to talk about your childhood
・Indirect sentences
・30 Kanji
At the end of the course you will be able to;
・Construct long sentences using modifying clauses
・Write new 30 Kanji
Textbook:Japanese for Busy People II, lessons 10–12
In this course, you will learn;
・Potential form
・Conditional sentences
・How to express the reasons
・30 Kanji
At the end of the course you will be able to;
・Express the reasons
・Tell what you can and can not do
・Write new 30 Kanji
Textbook:Japanese for Busy People II, lessons 13–15
In this course, you will learn:
・ How to create hypothetical and conditional sentences
・30 new Kanji
At the end of the course you will be able to:
・Create hypotherical and conditional statements
・Express necessities
・Write new 30 Kanji
No textbook is needed
The level of this class is above JLPT N2.
In this course, you will:
・Read Japanese newspapers and discuss the topics
・Translate anime and manga from Japanese into English and vice versa
・Learn Japanese culture through TV shows , movies, and animations
・Learn how to write formal business documents and email and resumes.
・Deliver a presentation on what you have studied in this course In the last session.
