Founded in 1906, Vancouver Japanese Language School (VJLS) is BC’s oldest Japanese language school, providing opportunities for Japanese culture, education, and connections. The VJLS curriculum emphasizes a balance of language education, cultural activities, and local history to create an engaging and meaningful experience for students.
Our school has students of all backgrounds, abilities, and ages who wish to become involved in our community. We offer a unique teaching experience that incorporates cultural events and activities into every course to help students reach their potential and deepen their understanding and appreciation of Japanese Canadian culture.
You will also learn about the history of the Japanese Canadian community and the roots of the Powell Street neighborhood.
