Fundamental Courses – Japanese as a second or third language for young people in K-12
Please check the Elementary Course for children fluent in Japanese prior to enrollment.

Introduction & Timetable

Ranging from five levels of Fundamental A-E, Fundamental Courses are offered as Saturday year-long courses aimed to enable young students in K-12, who wish to learn Japanese as a second or third language, to acquire well-balanced skills of Japanese. Graduates of Fundamental E will proceed to Comprehensive Course.

Fundamental A (FA)

Fundamental A (FA) is for young students to study Japanese for the first time.
Students will master Hiragana letters while learning very basic vocabulary, greetings, songs, and grammar through interactive activities and various kinds of audiovisual aids.  The class focuses on listening and speaking more than reading and writing.

Class time: Saturday, 9:00am – 12:00 pm

Fundamental B (FB)

Fundamental B (FB) is for those who have passed FA (or equivalent) and wish to continue to learn more basic vocabulary and more expressions while mastering Katakana letters. The class also focuses on listening and speaking more than reading and writing.

Class time: Saturday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Fundamental C (FC)

Fundamental C (FC) is for those who have passed FB (or equivalent).
They’ll start studying Japanese grammar more systematically with a textbook and audiovisual aids, to acquire useful sentence structures to describe themselves, their family, and their friends.

Class time: Saturday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm 

Fundamental D (FD)

Fundamental D (FD) is for those who have passed FC (or equivalent).
They’ll learn more variety of sentences and expressions with textbooks and interactive activities such as discussion, role-play etc.  They’ll also start learning Kanji.

Class time: Saturday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm 

Fundamental E (FE)

Fundamental E (FE) is for those who have passed FD (or equivalent).
They’ll build more advanced vocabulary while learning how to connect sentences into a longer story to express their opinions in Japanese. FE students will be able to reach the passable level of N5 (JLPT, Japanese Language Proficiency Test).

Class time: Saturday, 9:00am – 12:00 pm

Comprehensive Course

Comprehensive Course is for those who have passed FE (or equivalent) and wish to continue practicing various different usages of vocabulary and grammar for more practical purposes in a task-based curriculum.

Class time: Saturday, 1:00pm – 3:00pm
