Our camps offer a Japanese language immersion environment where children play, learn, and enjoy Japanese cultural activities. Teachers use Japanese as much as possible for communication for instruction and during games, but children of all language levels (including no Japanese at all) are welcome!
How is the camp experience like for children who don’t speak Japanese? Unlike adults, children don’t tend to overthink unfamiliar languages, so they usually don’t seem too concerned even when they don’t fully understand. We use simple and clear Japanese, and demonstrate activities so that even children with no Japanese can follow along and enjoy themselves. Volunteers are also available to help with interpretation, and we often see students helping each other.
Even without a shared language, children naturally make friends through play (kids are flexible geniuses!).
