The Kansha (formerly “Tatami”) Room and adjacent rooftop patios offer a panoramic view of downtown Vancouver, the Port, North Shore mountains and East Vancouver. “Kansha” is a Japanese which means “appreciation” and “gratitude.” We are grateful for many things including support from the community and neighbourhood. We are especially grateful for our ancestors and the long line of dedicated people who have stewarded our organization since 1906. The Kansha Room was renovated in the spring of 2025.
With its hemlock ceiling and accents and large windows, the Kansha Room is perfect for private functions such as small parties, special meetings, or classes.
Rental includes access to a kitchenette, two accessible washrooms, and the two small north-facing patios. The larger south-facing Outdoor Rooftop is a separate rental.

In English, Kansha (感謝) translates to appreciation and gratitude. To the VJLS-JH, Kansha conveys our feelings towards the endless support and tireless resilience of our community. Renovated in 2025, this meditative space lets us reflect on the long line of stewards who have helped sustain and grow our organization since its opening in 1906. We’d love for this to be a space where you can create meaningful experiences with your guests.
