In this course, you’ll learn a wide range of useful travel phrases, practical conversations, and fun cultural tips and etiquette to help you feel more confident and comfortable while traveling in Japan.

You don’t need to purchase a textbook for this class. All learning materials will be provided.

No prior Japanese experience? No problem!

The Travel Japanese course is specially designed for adult beginners.

No Japanese characters or complicated grammar rules! We will focus on simple, practical communication you can actually use on your trip.

Week 1 – Greetings, Food, and Culture

  • Pronunciation, greetings, introducing yourself
  • Introduction to culture, history, seasons, symbols, and (yay) famous Japanese foods

Week 2 – Eating Out 

  • How to make a reservation and order food
  • Talk about your impressions and tastes

Week 3 – Going Shopping 

  • Asking about items and their costs  
  • Japanese convenience stores (and their range of take-out foods)

Week 4 – Staying in Hotels 

  • Introduction to Hot Springs & Ryokan, Kaiseki Ryoori  
  • Confirming reservations, checking in, and asking for recommendations

Week 5 – Getting Around 

  • Ask for directions to specific places (e.g. the train station) and learn how to travel by bus, train, and taxi, and how to navigate the airport
  • Learn about conversations for talking with locals at tourist spots
