Eligibility: High school students and older, all languages welcome
Role: Support VJLS-JH’s participation in the Powell Street Festival, Vancouver’s largest Japanese Canadian community festival. Responsibilities may include food preparation and sales, event setup and operations, fundraising activities, and promoting VJLS-JH programs.

Role: Assist with a Tanabata event for preschool children, including decoration-making and bamboo wish-tree activities. This opportunity is perfect for anyone who enjoys working with children.
Session 1: July 13 – July 24, 2026 (Monday–Friday)
Session 2: August 10 – August 21, 2026 (Monday–Friday)

Role: Support Japanese language activities and cultural experiences for children from Kindergarten to Grade 6. This volunteer position is ideal for those who enjoy working with children and sharing Japanese culture.
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Urgently Seeking: Volunteers available on Wednesdays
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Requirements:
Role: Assist with reception duties, including responding to phone calls and emails, greeting visitors, and supporting office administration. Volunteers may also have opportunities to assist with planning and organizing seasonal events.
Dates: September 12, 2026 – June 12, 2027 (excluding holidays, winter break, and spring break, see calender)

Role: Assist teachers and students in Japanese language classes ranging from Kindergarten to adult learners. This opportunity is ideal for those who enjoy teaching Japanese, sharing Japanese culture, and engaging with students through classroom activities.
Requirements:
Join us in sharing Japanese arts and culture at this year’s TAIWANfest! Our friends at the Asian Canadian Special Events Association are looking for bilingual speakers to provide translation support for visiting artists from Japan. Volunteers will be asked to accompany artists at festival booths and/or workshops during Labour Day Weekend (September 5 -7), sharing their products and explaining their art practice to an English-speaking audience. VJLS-JH staff will be in attendance, and lunch and a festival T-shirt will be provided for volunteers by TAIWANfest.
