*Notes about registration:

  • Certificates can only be issued to addresses in Canada or the United States.
  • No refunds will be given for any reason.
  • Name and date of birth cannot be changed later, so please ensure they are correct.
  • You may use the 26 letters of the English alphabet (A to Z), hyphens (-), periods (.), commas (,) and apostrophes (‘), to a maximum of 40 characters.
  • Your name must match the name on the photo ID you will bring on the test day.
  • A link to registration will be provided here when it is open.
  • Registration will close once capacity is reached.

The registration forms will open on Tuesday, March 24th, 10am. Only BC addresses will be accepted. 

Registrations for non-BC addresses will be open from Wednesday, April 1st at 10am to Friday, April 10th at 5pm.

Registration FAQs

Q. I have a BC address but cannot provide ID for verification.
A. ID is not required when applying. So long as you live in BC, you can apply.
Q. I live in the U.S. – will there still be test spots available by April 1?
A. Availability varies each year, so we cannot give a prediction.
Q. I am neither Canadian nor American – can I take the test?
A. Yes, you can take the test, but a Canadian or U.S. address is required.
Q. Can I register in person (walk-in)?
A. No, registration is online only.

1. General Information

Test Voucher

The test voucher will be sent via email to all test takers by the end of May, 2026. If you do not receive the voucher, please contact jlpt@vjls-jh.com

Special Accommodations

Applicants requesting special accommodations must submit their application by April 3, 2026. Please refer to the following steps:

  1. Review the 2026 JLPT Special Testing Accommodations instructions and fill out the Request for Special Testing Accommodations Form (a medical certificate is required).
  2. Send the completed Request for Special Testing Accommodations form to jlpt@vjls-jh.com

    Note: If you have received testing accommodations for the JLPT administered outside of Japan within the past three years (July 2023 test or later), you will only be required to submit the Special Testing Accommodations (STA) Request Form. You will not need to submit a new medical certificate.

  • All the test takers must read the Test Guide and follow the instructions: Test Guide (PDF) 

Conduct

  • Test takers are not allowed to leave the test room once the test has begun.

Electronic Devices

The use of any electronic devices is strictly prohibited. To avoid confusion, please do not bring any electronic devices other than a smartphone to the test venue on the test day.

  • If a test taker uses an electronic device or turns on the power of any electronic device after the check-in time has ended, it will be considered misconduct.
  • Smartphones brought to the venue must be turned off at check-in. All smartphones will be collected by staff and securely stored together during the test. Bringing more than one smartphone is also strictly prohibited.
  • The following electronic devices are not allowed in the test venue, including but not limited to: Smartwatches, PCs and laptops, Tablets, Earphones or headphones, Wearable devices, Music players, IC recorders, Any electronic devices with communication or camera functions.

On the test day, bring:

  1. Printed Test Voucher
    The back side of the voucher must be blank.
    Digital versions will not be accepted.
  2. Government-issued photo ID
    (i.e. passport, driver’s license, health card with photo)
  3. HB pencil and eraser
    No mechanical pencils allowed.
  4. Please note: 
    There is no place to buy snacks or drinks inside or around the building.

 

Do not bring:

  1. Electronic devices
    Each person may bring only one mobile phone. Bringing electronic devices other than a mobile phone is prohibited. Mobile phones must be turned off and handed in to staff. Mobile devices will be kept in the exam room and returned after the exam ends.
