Tailored to Beginners

This course is designed for the following learners:
• Those who are studying Japanese for the first time
• Those who have not completed the Adult A or Youth A class at VJLS
• Those who would like to retake the Beginner class or the Adult A or Youth A class at VJLS

Learners of all ages, adults and youth (grade 7 & up) are welcome!

Classes will be held over 7 months, from January 11 to July 26, 2026. Most classes will be in-person but the ones that fall on long weekends will be offered both in-person and online, with recordings available for students who have other commitments on those days.  

At the end of the course, there will be an assessment for students who are interested in transitioning to the next class level in September.

Learning Goals

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Introduce yourself
  • Order food at a restaurant
  • Extend, accept, and politely decline invitations
  • Ask and describe the location of buildings, things, people, and events
  • Speak and write about your background and experiences in simple sentences
  • Read and write Hiragana, Katakana and 58 Kanji

Genki 1 (3rd Edition) Lesson 1 to 6

(Available from the school office for $60 for textbook and $30 for workbook; or online from Amazon)

Fees

Payable at the time of registration: 

  1. Administration Fee: $58 (one-time payment)
  2. Facility Maintenance Fee: $28 (one-time payment)
Tuition

Payable after registration: 

  1. One-time payment of $1,078 (by e-transfer or cheque only)
    OR
  2.  Monthly payment of $160.28 (by credit card only),  equal to $1,122 over 7 months

 

Refer a Friend

If you register for this class and then refer someone else who signs up, you can both receive a refund of the administration fee — $58!

  • A referral code will be sent to your email when you register.
    • When you share that code with others, they can use it to waive the administration fee when they register. 
    • If you refer someone who registers, please contact Crystal Wei to request your $58 refund.
  • The maximum discount per registration is $58.
