The Vancouver Japanese Language School & Japanese Hall is the only JLPT test site in British Columbia, and for the July exam, the only test site in the Pacific Northwest.

Every year, with the support of The Japan Foundation, we welcome hundreds of test-takers from Canada and the United States to join us for the JLPT.

Prepare for the JLPT

Not sure how to prepare for the JLPT? We help test takers prepare for the test day! The Vancouver Japanese Language School offers an online JLPT Prep Course and a twice-yearly Mock Exam to support students on their JLPT journey. We also welcome students to our annual adult classes, and for private lessons with our experienced Japanese-language instructors.

About the JLPT

JLPT is a test for non-native speakers of Japanese which evaluates and certifies their Japanese-language proficiency. The test is simultaneously conducted in Japan and various locations overseas twice a year, in July and December.

Since JLPT began in 1984, the cumulative number of examinees in Japan and overseas has reached 12,720,000 until the rest in December 2020. Currently, it is the largest Japanese language test in the world.

Advantages of JLPT

JLPT certification offers various advantages. In Japan, the JLPT is taken into consideration for preferential immigration treatment as well as an eligibility for various national exams.

Outside Japan, it is widely used as university credits, graduation certification, job screening and promotion, as well as for a variety of national qualifications.
