In order to preserve the safety and wellbeing of VJLS-JH’s students, parents, and staff, we have decided to continue online learning for the remainder of the 2020 – 2021 school year and to not reopen classrooms in January. We know that many students and parents had hoped to be able to return to in-person lessons and we will continue to explore opportunities to make this possible once it is safe to do so.

Our decision was made after careful observation of outbreaks in the public school system, the rising number of “Second Wave” COVID 19 illnesses, and an analysis of the challenges associated with safely moving 200 students within the building while maintaining strict physical distancing.

VJLS-JH will continue to comply with the recommendations of the BC CDC and Vancouver Coastal Health and will keep parents and students updated on when it may be safe to return to in-person classes.

We hope to explore opportunities to safely bring our school community together remotely and to celebrate Japanese language and culture from home in the coming months.
