  • パウエルストリートのパフォーマー その2  (eNews1月号のつづき) 1940年、Aiko Saita氏、Sally Nakamura氏共に日本でのエンターテイメントのキャリアを着実に築いていました。しかし第二次世界大戦により2人の順調な生活は途絶してしまうのです。英語での歌のパフォーマンスは政府により禁止され、市民権を持たない日系カナダ人歌手はオペラ上演を禁じられました。これによりSally氏の歌手としてのキャリアは絶たれたものの、そこから新たに映画俳優としての道を歩むこととなります。日本の公共放送NHKも宣伝ラジオ番組の英語のナレーションとして彼を採用しました。一方Aiko氏は、アジアに駐留する日本軍に向けたパフォーマンスを行っていましたが、ロシアの収容所に送還され拘束されてしまいます。
