Wow, what an interesting and exciting month April was! Although there were a few bumps along the way, we’ve managed to transition nearly all of our 25 in-person classes to an entirely online experience and are making improvements each week. It has been wonderful to hear stories from students who have enjoyed this opportunity to reconnect with one another. This would not have been possible without the tremendous hard work, ingenuity, and passion of our teachers who are creating lively, engaging lessons each week.
Many of you have reached out to ask about what September will bring and whether we will be able to re-open the school. While some provinces have begun to discuss this, it is still too early to tell in BC. We are therefore going to plan carefully for September so that we will be able to offer online classes in case we are still required to physically distance ourselves. We will make a final decision towards the end of June or early July once we have more information but encourage you to sign up for next year’s courses once registration opens later this month in order to hold your spot.
While there is much excitement on the school side of VJLS-JH, we have also begun to explore opportunities with new partners in our community to help individuals and families affected by COVID-19. Already we have partnered with a non-profit organization that is delivering meals to seniors and we are exploring opportunities to help other organizations store medical supplies and cook meals. Our organization has always provide a space for gathering community together and I am grateful that we are able to honour this mission and support others during a time in which the Hall has stood empty. If you know of a group affected by COVID 19 that needs access to space, we would welcome you to connect us with them.
As we no longer have the opportunity to meet on Saturdays during classes, I welcome you to reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org to share your thoughts, ideas, and interests and how we can continue to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for you.
Thank you for your continued support and for joining us on this exciting journey as we find new ways to stay connected to those around us.
